Thank you for participating in the 2008 WLL All Star program (program summary can be found below). The player selection process included but is not limited to (a) the top vote getters from the All Star ballots, (b) review of official records from Team scorebooks, (c) evaluation collected from the Managers at Minor (MN) & Major (MJ) levels, & (d) players meeting availability & eligibility requirements..

All Star Program

1)     The WLL President will announce the All Star Manager & Coach/Coaches to the Board of Directors (BOD). The earliest announcement will be made by the May BOD meeting. The Manager Selection process included but is not limited to the following.

a)     Review of written statements from prospective Coaches.

b)    Observations of interactions with WLL plus their teams plus other Little League’s (LL).

c)     Selected coaches must have attended (or will attend before the All Star Tournament begins) the Dr Smoll clinic within the last 5 years.

d)    Early selection of All Star Managers will allow them to evaluate & select Coaches.

i)      Managers will be given a list of coaching candidates who have requested to be considered as All Star Coaches. They will use any criteria they choose to evaluate Coaches.

ii)     Managers will be able to prepare criteria for evaluating players. A longer evaluation period will provide a more accurate picture of a player’s baseball skills & sportsmanship. They will have time to scout players from regular season teams.

2)     Any player age 9-12 at MN or MJ level will have their name placed on the All Star ballot provided that both the player & their parent has signed the 2008 WLL All Star Commitment form by the WLL deadline.

a)     At a minimum, Players & Parents must agree to not miss any practices or games or team activities from June 15th through the end of July for the 9-10 & 10-11 year old teams or late August for the 11-12 year old team. Additional standards may be enforced.

b)    Players can & will be replaced by actions of the WLL President if they do not meet availability standards established by WLL.

3)     Players, Coaches & Managers will vote for players during the WLL League Championship Tournament (LCT).

a)     The vote will be executed & sealed by a BOD member.

i)      Players, Coaches, & Managers will be asked to keep in mind the qualities that WLL demands of an All Star player.

1)     Players exemplify good sportsmanship & team spirit at all times.

2)     Players consistently perform baseball skills such as fielding, hitting & running extremely well.

3)     Players are highly skilled at pitching or playing more than one position.

ii)     Players, Coaches, & Managers may vote for teammates as well as Players on other teams. Players may vote for themselves.

iii)    Managers & Coaches are encouraged to look at all Players, not just the ones on their team.

b)    The top vote getters are automatically on the All Star team for each level.

i)      All votes will be tallied by the President & re-tallied by another board member to ensure accuracy.

ii)     Results of the voting will be shared by the WLL President with the All Star Managers.

4)     The All Star managers will then begin selecting the remaining players for a maximum of 14 players. The manager will use a variety of methods to select the All Star Players including but not limited to

a)     Review of official records from Team scorebooks.

b)    Evaluation of feedback collected from the Managers at MN & MJ levels.

c)     Any other criteria they choose to evaluate Players.

d)    Players must meet availability & eligibility requirements.

5)     All Star Managers will make a list of selected Players available to the President by the night before the All Star announcements for approval.

a)     The President will announce the selected All Star players to the BOD.

b)    Per LL rule All Star MJ Players names will be announced on June 15th. All Star 9-10 & 11-12 Players names will be announced on June 15th or 2 weeks prior to the start of the All Star Tournament (whichever is earlier).

c)     The President will make a list of the selected All Star players available to the League Website on June 15th.
